Greetings from Vancouver, British Columbia. This is my first trip to Western Canada.  It’s a very beautiful place with a long shoreline and rugged mountains in the distance.

When I go to a city that I haven’t been to before, one of the first things I like to do is see it from above, so my first stop today was to the Vancouver Lookout. In the picture below you can see part of Stanley Park, covered with trees in Vancouver Harbor.

Lookoutというのは、高いところから見渡すことができる場所のことです。スタンレーパークは、真ん中の島になっているところかな? 私はバンクーバーには行ったことがありませんが、キレイな町ですね。

The Lookout is close to Waterfront Station, one of the main transport hubs in the city.

I went to Granville Island, which is actually a peninsula just south of downtown Vancouver, for lunch. There were a lot of stores and restaurants and a great public market that was very crowded.

My next stop was the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. This museum has a large collection of artifacts from around the world, but is best known for it’s great hall which displays giant totem poles and other carvings made by the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest.

ここの博物館は面白そう! 大きなトーテムポールを見てみたいです。

After leaving the museum, I went to Stanley Park and walked along the shoreline.  Every few minutes a seaplane would land in the harbor.

Tomorrow I’m hoping to get out of city and enjoy some of British Columbia’s natural beauty. I’ll write soon.
